I am sitting this morning with every window in the house open, a ceiling fan going full blast, a floor fan going and I am still ripping off sheets of paper towel to catch the drips of sweat rolling down my face.
I grew up in Canada where the summer heat often went over 40 degree but it's this humidity I cannot handle.
We both came downstairs last night because we couldn't bear the heat upstairs so, besides been miserably hot, I, or should I say we, are miserably tired as well.
So the question is, how are you handling this heat and any suggestions for cooling down?

Think I've tried everything: cool drinks, showers, fans , chill pillow and agree nothing is working. Grandkids soaked me yesterday and that was great but soon heated up again.xx aime xx🙀🙀
Really? I could NEVER live there. The other day our heat index was 43 celsius. I have an AC that was working overtime and I was tossing and turning all night. I could not sleep at all and that was with a temp of 23 celsius in my room. (I think that's right...we use farenheit over here.) Anyway, the AC doesn't always work well at work and I use a cooling towel that I bought through Amazon basically you just wet it and put it around your neck and it helps a lot.
Man, you've got me wondering why you don't have those over there. So weird! I mean even if it's 26 celsius that's too hot! I do remember one of my bosses visiting Italy though and telling me the only part he didn't like about it is they didn't have air conditioning.
It was awful last night. There was a strange freak of nature last night around 10 p.m. when the temperature suddenly went up. At one point it was 32 degrees in our bedroom. My hair was plastered to my head (not a pretty sight). We finally came downstairs and spent most of the night wetting the dogs down to keep them cool.
Hopefully, now cooled down for you...but son,a new daddy, now with 4 boys, saaid they put the sheets in the fridge for a couple of hours and the children loved them and go off to sleep very happily. We recorded 41 degrees here and fan made no difference!. Oh to be a child!! Take care of your lovely self....Tinkerbell
Here in West Virginia summer temps in the high 90 - low 100s - f (36-42c) / humidity in the high 90%s there are few options other than air conditioning and a dip in the river.
For places that only need occasional a/c there are these nifty portable a/c units, available at your local Amazon.UK
It’s hard going, especially yesterday. I pretty much resembled a sloth. I think everyone is feeling it though. The news presenter Steven Dixon commented that he had to get up and sleep in the garden. So glad I didn’t have to work yesterday.
I am right there with you far away in the Pacific NW, USA. In the middle of Winter I slept next to a wide open window with at least half my body uncovered by bedding or pajamas. People and literature list “night sweats” but I am dry and hot. It wakes me up a couple of times per night. I have JAK2+ET and take HU 800mg/day and a baby aspirin 2/day. I have developed one of HU’s side effects of skin cancer. It was 90 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday. HOT! My window AC in the bedroom with 2 little fans blowing cold air my way helps. Another AC near the living room and more fans help when I am out of the bedroom. It is miserable. I think the MPN and the HU both have the ability to start our body fire. Well stay as cool as you can and pray for a cure or better drugs
I find it cooler than the house. Wiping myself with a damp flannel. Failing that sitting with my feet in a cool bowl of water. Although on Thursday whilst around the house I did resort to wearing a bikini under a beach sarong. That was really cool. Added to the fact my 21/2 year old grandson and I had had hose pipe fights .
I’m loving the fact that I can wear a thin dress and not worry about the weather turning and sit outside in the evening with a cool drink. Mop the floor and have it dry before finishing, clothes dry on the line in no time.
Ice packs/cool water on your wrists -- it cools your whole system. Also on your neck, as Birdie123 says, and temples -- and feet. Anywhere your veins are close to the surface of your skin. The heat absolutely flattens me, but these little things help. Good luck! Kim
It is good to keep all windows open during the night and shutting everything down, darkening the house during the day from 7am until 8 pm or until it’s cool enough. That is, if the nights are cool enough. It’s important to keep the walls cool. If that doesn’t work, wet a beach towel and wring it, lie in your bed naked and put the towel on your body. I’m Greek. Works even with 46 degrees!
