Strange question ...

Does anyone else’s ears react badly to wearing earrings with PV?!! I’ve had my ears pierced for over 30 years and worn some decidedly dodgy jewellery during my younger years, however about 6 months ago the holes in my ears started getting inflamed and painful if I tried to wear earrings. Seems strange that this just started happening as my disease was developing.

Or am I blaming it when, for once, it’s unrelated?!!

Thanks Louise

Yes! My ears are not pierced- I have many pairs of clip on earrings and find it very difficult to find a pair I can wear beyond 10 minutes!

I have had ET for at least 10 years an am on hydroxy.

Hi Louise,

Ooh that sounds sore. As for me. I don't wear earrings much these days. But when I do, there's no problem. I've had PV for 4 years.

Hi Lousie, I have had my ears pierced since i was a young child and had no problems. Not long after i was diagnosed i had issues with 1 ear constantly getting inflammed. In the end ,stopped wearing earrings altogether. When my daughter got married early last year, i decided to have them pierced again, not long later the same problem occured with the same ear becoming inflammed and full of gunk. I think from now,i will just not bother. Atb,tina.🤗

Yup I have ET and same thing as the disease progressed, inflamed, always bleeding, painful - so stoped wearing earrings some years ago!! Funny how on this site we all find so many things we “suffer” with that wouldn’t be on the usual list !

Over the last years I had this reaction with metal posts and earrings, but not with real gold or silver. I put transparent nail polish on my posts and whichever part of the “fake” earrings are touching my earlobe. It’s worth a try.

Hiya, thanks for this, I have PV, and have had sore ear lobes after wearing earrings , mostly silver and gold, little lumps developed as well, they have calmed down now but nervous of wearing them again. That along with not wearing eye make up because of blepheritus I feel like a right plain Jane..........

I thought this was just me!

I have a few piercings.. always think they’re a good idea at the time but they always seem to take forever to heal! Then they will flare up with infection quite often (and I take good care of them too)

Never again! But I’m too stubborn to take them out after the pain I’ve gone through with them 😬

I never connected the fact that I could no longer wear pierced ear rings because of inflammation and horrible pus and pain with my ET - it makes sense now others have written about it! I can't even wear gold or hypoallergenic ones these days. I thought it was an age thing!! I tried to wear some on my sons wedding day, they didn't last until the end of the ceremony! Fortunately my hair covered the weeping lobes! Years ago I could wear really cheap ones. Hey ho, yet another ET "thing".

Eeee what are we like?!! Thanks for all your replies - at least I understand the reason why now - even though it’s annoying that I can’t wear them anymore!

Yet another downside to our ridiculous plights!! L xx
