Not sure! It’s live vaccines we have to avoid, that’s all I know. Hope someone else can help.

Hi,

If it’s a live vaccine you need to be careful. My cns said to avoid contact for 2 weeks with my grandchildren, not to change nappies etc. At that time , 6 years ago I was careful, however, since then a lot of information has come to light regarding the child’s nasal flu vaccine which is also live and my GP told me not to worry.

If you are not on one of the cytotoxic drugs, eg, Hydroxy and your immune system is not compromised then you don’t need to worry anyway. My feeling is that I take such a low dose of Hydroxy my system is not severely compromised. I now enjoy my grandchildren without worrying about it.

Thanks for reply , Yes on Hydroxy... but low dose and feeling well ... little one just had 3mth vaccines and I’m in charge on Friday for only half a day so a limited amount of nappies etc (hopefully) . Just will take precautions and have latex gloves handy ... S

I wouldn’t worry too much. I did ask the nurse about latex gloves and she said it would make no difference as the spores are airborne. I really think they are used to giving advice to people undergoing intravenous chemo which of course is much stronger. I stopped worrying about it and want to enjoy my grandchildren. Anyway, if they were my children and not grandchildren I would have to look after them.

Enjoy!

At 12 weeks babies have rota virus vaccine given orally. It is a live virus so you have to be careful giving it and changing nappies for a few days. As a health visitor I avoid administing it. Hope this helps. The other vaccine to a avoid is mmr given at 1 year but only handling.
