Hip op. and ET

My wife has been told she will have a hip replacement in November. If anyone has experience of this operation whilst having ET we would appreciate your advice and guidance. When she had an emergency stomach op in 2017 the surgeon etc did not consult the MPN clinic until she was quite poorly.

Hi, I have PV and have had numerous ops for arthritic related issues. Each time just before my op I ensure my bloods are checked and they are ok. My surgeon for my knee op (which was a bigger one) had my haems contact details and did contact in advance of the op to ask advice.

I always wear the sexy stockings (the anti thrombosis ones) as directed and usually they use special boots in theatre which massage your legs to keep circulation going. Post op I received heparin jabs and then went home with tablets to take for 3 weeks to avoid clots.

Once home I do rest but also try to have little spells of gentle exercise like getting my own breakfast or cuppa, etc. Hope this helps, but please check that this advice would be the same for someone with ET.

Kindest regards and wishing a speedy recovery Aime xx😸😸

(ET patient) I had dental surgery early this year. I was weak for months. Being unable to eat did not help and my heamoglobin dropped from 117

To 103. My advice would be to make sure she has fortified drinks so that her body’s health does not deteriorate whilst she’s recovering.

Hope all goes well. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Thanks for all your advice and good wishes. Have an appt with haem. next month and so will ensure that she is aware of the hip op!
