Bites

I was wondering if anyone else with pv finds that whilst on holiday they are the main feast for the mosquitoes. It has definitely worsened since my diagnosis. Any ideas why? Tried all the normal sprays etc to prevent getting bitten but still covered in them. Or if anyone has a good idea for treatment that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi, yes Scottish midgies and all insects abroad seem to love my blood despite my PV. I was in Brazil in 2013 and repellent with Deet did scare them off but I had to be covered in it day and night.

My sympathies, kindest regards Aime xx😺😺

They don’t seem to bite me as much as annoy me. The midge drives me crazy.

Good morning Jackgirl10.

I live in Portugal for part if the year and the mosquito’s love me! I always think its my ‘thick blood’ 😊. Or maybe it’s just my overheated PV body that attracts them.

It’s not only the fact that they bite but also my body reacts by swelling up and going much more sore than it used to.

We buy plug-in mosquito repellents and they seem to work and once we notice them on the terrace at night we come in and close the doors.

My daughter’s Portuguese partner used to put vodka on his skin at night as he said it kept them away! Too much money to waste I would say 🤣

Good luck and as I always think - they can’t fly around too much after drinking my thick blood! Lesley x

Vodka sounds quite a good idea, I’m not good drinking alcohol but might be good on skin! My old Auntie used to put perfume on bites!xx. The worst bites or stings I ever got were after coming home to Scotland after 3 weeks in Brazil and ending up bitten by a Scottish something, resulting in a trip to A&E, drip with antibiotics, etc. Really scarey experience after being wary of all the Brazilian bugs!!xx Aime 😹😹🦂🐜🕷🕷

Hi there, I have ET and since being on hydroxy and clopidriol I seem to be the ideal feast for all insects! I never have been before. I just hope my toxic blood dosnt suit them😉

They hate me since I've had PV, always a silver lining somewhere. x

Pre Hydro, never saw a mozzie, last year bitten to death

I've been taking a vitamin B multi-vit every morning for the past few years, and it seems to have stopped the bites, although I do run inside as soon as they come out for their tea! Like many others my bite reaction was pretty awful, but I found applying "Blessed Seed Oil" (blackseed oil) to the bite stopped the itching and reaction in its tracks.

I have a bad reaction to mossie bites - always assumed it was because they need to pump extra anti-coagulant stuff in to get at our thicker blood . If you know anyone who sells Avon products try . . . ' Skin So Soft ' . It's not advertised as a repellent but works a treat - at least for me .
