I have PV and taking Hydrocarbomide. Saw my GP today and he said you have to use protection to avoid pregnancy, whilst on this medication. If there is no chance of pregnancy, then there is no harm to your partner if you don’t use protection, whilst on hydrocarbomide. Interested to hear what advice others have been given by there doctor, relating to this.

Hi Jef, this advice is correct, if you are taking Hydroxycarbamide it can harm the foetus, therefore it is always recommended that if there is any chance you could get someone pregnant you should be using contraception, if there is no chance at all of pregnancy occurring then you are ok. And likewise for any females wanting to become pregnant they cannot take Hydroxycarbamide because of the risk to a developing foetus. Maz
