Hi Kilmichael,

I don’t wear sunscreen anymore although I’m very white. I just slowly build up my tan. when I did use it, the best was Clinique 50. you only use a bit and it goes a loooong way and you hardly need to reapply it. Smooths on fast. Once My family and I had tanned a bit, we mixed it with 1/2 skin lotion for a week and then mixed it with 2/3 skin lotion for a while.

All my red haired friends tried it and are really happy with the quality and protection. We always used the body cream on our faces, too. In the Long run, it’s actually cheaper than the cheap brands. We (3) almost made it through the summer with one tube. If you’re using for super protection you’ll need more than that.

Cheers

Hi there. I did a bit of research when I went on to Hydroxy some years back. I use LaRoche Posay products for face. They do a number of different ones to suit skin type. I also keep a tube of their body stuff for wrists etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘tanning products’ but I can’t see why fake tan would be a problem - obviously nothing that involves sunshine, real or otherwise!

I also invested in a few pieces of sun protection clothing. And I don’t buy anything without long sleeves / long trousers etc now. The best sun clothing makes I’ve found are Coolibar (a US company so watch for import taxes etc if you’re in the U.K. - and buy in the sale!). And Solbari an Australian company that seems to ship from the U.K. Uniqlo do some ‘UV’ pieces too - much cheaper but not sure of protection. And of course the ‘outdoor’ labels also do sun protection clothing but they tend to be a bit sporty / safari. I also now have a range of sunhats! And I’ve just invested in sun protection driving gloves. Bit weird but sensible for the summer.

I’m channeling the ‘pale and interesting’ look. I think more and more people are. The deep tan is all a bit yesterday. And my skin is so much better. Banking on having the last wrinkle free laugh:)))

Hi, I'm in a similar boat, with exploring my first summer on hydroxycarbamide. I have bought some sun protective clothing from Solbari as Ebot mentions above . It is a bit expensive though and I have been very selective, but is is very well made. I think the best strategy is to wear a sun hat and stay in the shade as much as you can. For sun creams, I use what from past experience worked for me (when I was a real sun worshipper! ), with Roche Posay for the face and Nivea for the body, all Factor 50. I was happy to see that Nivea came up very high on sun filter reliability on the Which survey, a couple of years ago.

I’ve just bought ‘green people’ sunscreen . Never used sunscreen before but still preparing for the day I take Hydroxy!!!

Natural product.

I wouldn’t use tanning stuff as don’t want more chemicals in my body than necessary. ...

For years I used Nutrogena products, but just recently a study came out saying that benzene has been found in this sunscreen and many others. The people at the factory were exposed to toxic levels of benzene. I've recently had quite of few skin cancer issues, having excisions etc. My dermatologist recommend eltaMD skin care . It is broad spectrum SPF 46. It is pricey, but I use it on my face, neck, chest area. I'm looking for something else for arms, legs as I get too warm in clothing made to protect you from the sun.

Good luck, love that you asked because i also benefit from the responses to your inquiry. Good luck
