Just wondered how long they take to get signed off and sent out?
Also, if you need to renew your prescription whilst waiting for the certificate is there anyway to avoid paying for the prescription in the meantime?

Ask for an nhs receipt at the pharmacy then when your card arrives you can get a refund at any pharmacy with the receipt and your card providing the start date on the card is not after the date on the receipt.
Hello Mark, when i was waiting for my card, i carried a leukaemia booklet which has essential thrombocythemia i showed pharmacy the book, they were happy to accept that

Here is some useful info:
nhsbsa.nhs.uk/exemption-cer...
It takes a couple of weeks to get the exemption card from sending off the form, and it is backdated for a month from date of issue.
Any time you get a prescription until it arrives, ask for an FP57 receipt from the pharmacy and reclaim the money as soon as your card arrives.
You can just tick the section where it says that you have one. If your pharamacist asks to see it, you can say it's in the post.
