How do I know I'm drinking enough water, when taking hydoxy?
Hi I was told by my McMillian nurse to drink at least 2 litres of water a day as it eliminates the toxins from the drug out of your system by peeing mainly. I do find it difficult especially in the winter so I try and flavour my water with something, I've been putting lemons and limes in recently. I also put a little juice in and do find it easier to drink but I'm in the process of trying to find a nice sugar free one, not easy. I definitely don't feel so good if I don't drink the required amount so I've learnt the hard way that it is necessary to keep as well as possible on this drug. I carry bottles of water everywhere now but I find topping them up when I'm out for the day difficult sometimes and finding a loo quickly!
I agree with Linda,I carry water around with me,going out is a problem re the loo! Two to three litres is best, more difficult in winter, eventually it does become 'second nature' to drink water even socially when friends have wine, now no longer even feel the need for wine with a meal,I spend most of my life in France....it used to feel a bit odd not having wine with a meal!
Nothing wrong with a drop to flavour the water tho !Best Wishes, think of benefits to skin, you stay young forever !!!!
Do you mean that you drink glasses of water through am
and pm
it's quite a lot to take on board, had 1st capsule last night, found it hard to sleep, as yesterday had been so busy at the hospital
The simplest way to tell if you are having enough water so I was told is when your urine looks like the colour of straw and not brown or orange, then you are having enough.
Best wishes.
Hi are you newly diagnosed? I was diagnosed in Sept with ET + JK positive. I've been experimenting with taking my drugs at different times, find the best asprin after breakfast and Hydroxy after lunch or sometimes dinner. I bought a Aladdin water bottle from Millets, that I can thoroughly recommend doesn't leak or smell of plastic. Ideally I need to fill it three times a day to get my 2 litres in. I find it easier to measure how much I'm drinking like that rather than from glasses and you can easily lose count.
Hi
I was diagnosed with PV nearly 7 years ago.
Try and drink between 2 and 3 litres of water every 24 hours, well spaced out, and not more than half a litre at once.
If you're not used to drinking a lot of water then start small and build up.
I found the easiest way was to buy some large beer glasses - Waitrose sell really nice ones very reasonably. You can then work out how many glasses you need to drink to get you to, say, 2 1/2 litres.
Your urine should be almost colourless. Not only good for general hydration but excellent for healthy kidneys too.

Hi, I found an app for my phone called 'Hydro' which really helps me keep up my fluid intake. It reminds me I need to drink and I can record every glass of water and cup of tea so I always know if I'm on track to make my target.
Nicky
Do I include all my cups of tea, in with fluid intake.
I'm not much of a coffee drinker, maybe 1 in the morning.
