High wbc

My wbc is slightly elevated. Is this normal with et?

I have ET and, so far, my white blood counts have been relatively normal, my red ones vary quite a bit, and are often down. I try to keep a record of all my blood counts. When they give me my prescription to take to the hospital pharmacy it has a print out of my blood results with it, I always take a picture of this with my phone, then store it on my computer. I did have them all on a spread sheet but this seems to have disappeared! I'll have to try and re-do it. Best wishes. X

Mine were high at diagnosis but I was recovering from a bout of pneumonia.

They are relatively normal now and like lizzieep my reds go up and down .

I also keep a spreadsheet and write down my results so if anything is different I can ask the heam why.

I know if you have a little infection they can go up a bit .

I have ET and my hospital gave me a book, so every time I have my bloods done my Haemotologist, and Dr Surgery all write my blood test results in, and this I carry around with me in my handbag, now when I look at them mine seem to go up and down like a yoyo! but the docs seem to be pleased with me at the moment., but can be a bit of a worry when they go up or down come to that, but is quite normal they just keep an eye on them, then if they need to alter my medication they do until normality is achieved. So try not to worry too much as worrying will not help. keep smiling😃

Wow they give you a book and write your results down.....bit different a my hospital. I ask for a print out which is on her desk, it is given very reluctantly . I don't find it easy to read but I bring it home . Sandy

Not easy to read blood results

Try this

Check if there is a star or asterisk beside the first column. This tells you if your results are out of range.

Then choose HGB - as an example. Look across and see the range this should be, ie lowest and highest. Note where you are.

The results are in groups, red, white and then platelets as a stand alone reading.

If you would like to know more about HGB or HCT etc do Google search.

I did this for a long time to try to get to understand the relevance of these figures.

These results tell you so much it is valuable to understand them.

Hi

My sister has ET and last time her WBC were slightly elevated and the consultant said not to worry.

Think she was at about 12, and top end normal is 10 but they didnt seem concerned
