When to take HU

A number of people on here remark how fatigued they are. I take my HU in the morning and don't suffer with fatigue, but is there an argument to take it a night? Would it help?

I have ET and take HU (though lucky only 3 times a week). My haematologist recommended I take it in eve / at night so I would sleep through any fatigue. LizC x

I take mine in the morning, work full time and don't feel the fatigue that many others do. I take mine in the morning because I take Clopedogrel in the evening with lanzaprole.

Hi Clara, it would seem to make real sense to take before bed to me. I take mine in morning along with my Clopidogrel, 5 days with weekend off for good behaviour! Got haem appt in precisely 3 hrs so going to check it out with him as the fatigue hits me mid afternoon. Think you have to take your lifestyle into account too-the tiredness wouldn't be so much of a problem or maybe wouldn't be so debilitating if I wasnt working 2 jobs plus a teenager & dog to care for single handed!!!! Still, I eat well, walk & meditate, all of which go to help. Stay well & warm, Poll x

Hi Clara

I have ET, diagnosed 2 yrs and started taking HU in the morning but switched to evening after about 6 months and find it far far better re fatigue as I can now get through the day without the need for a nap and mainly sleep better at night.

Hi Clara, well checked it out with my haem today & he told me there would be no problem switching to taking my Hydroxy a couple of hours before bedtime.....so going to start tomorrow to see how that works for me. Just got to get into the new routine now! Will post if there's any marked difference & whether the need for a Saga Snooze in the afternoon abates!!! Stay well, Poll x

Would love to get thru the day without the afternoon shut down. Will ask my consultant if I can change to evening....does the amount of HU affect you.I find when I take a higher dose ,the fatigue is much worse.Just started to reduce as bloods are stable again after 4 months not,and within the week I am less weary and nauseous.......trial and error for us all ....good luck everyone!

I take mine (1000mg) at night as i find i have minimal side effects that way. I think if you change you would have to wait a week or two to see any changes (if any!).
