back in the dim, distant past I took oral Busulphan when HU was not getting the results. I used to take it for a month at a time and it was quite effective. I was reluctant to go back to HU when I had a new consultant who refused to use Busulphan. More recently when I have asked about it have been told that its side effect profile is too risky to be used in anyone under the age of about 80 (I was using it at 44 and often wonder if that is why my ET progressed to MF. I did get infections, particulaly UTI, when I was on it but I used to enjoy the "time off" between the cycles of it.

Many thanks for reply. Only had two mega doses, so hoping won't have had long term negative impact. Wish you well with your MF and trust you are getting great support. Tinkerbell 13

Hi Tinkerbell, I passed your query through to Prof Harrison and she has said 'Don't give up hope!

Busulfan is a long acting drug its effects can take many weeks and several doses to work. Though like everything it may not work on everyone!', I hope this helps, kind regards, Maz.

How kind, Maz, thank you for asking Prof Harrison on my behalf.. The most incredible thing...today, a blood test showed had gone from 987 to 287, so the haematologist reckons it just took its time, as the Anagrelide have been on for only a week couldn't possibly have brought about that dramatic result. Now, to get the right balance! It was very reassuring to know I could put in a post and someone would answer and I do feel most grateful for Health Unlocked. Many thanks, Tinkerbell 13
