DDA

Hello,

Can anyone confirm if ET is covered by the disability discrimination act. I recently had a few days off work which my Dr signed me off, citing ongoing blood disorder. My HR dept are refusing to show the sickness as DDA connected as ET is not on their 'list' of approved illnesses.

Thanks.

Hi Justin, I know that you have queried this before, do you belong to or have a union where you work? If you do perhaps they could help you take this up with the HR Dept, the DDA guide does say that the list of conditions is not exhaustive webarchive.nationalarchives.... And all MPNs are now classified as blood cancers, as per the World Health Organization (WHO) re-classification in 2008. In the replies to your previous question healthunlocked.com/mpdvoice... some people have been successful in having it confirmed by their consultants and/or Occupational Therapists that their MPN is covered by the DDA, so maybe you could ask your HR Dept to refer you to an Occupational Therapist for their assessment and opinion. Good luck with it all, Maz.

I can confirm that as the World Health Authority has classed all MPNs as cancer we are automatically covered by the DDA. I checked this out for myself as I am responsible for

HR in the company where I work. Also am aware of at least one Council who employees a friend with ET who recognise this so the local government do agree
