As Christmas approaches ,how do others cope with the increased alcohole available as we are taking various drugs ,it's a time to celebrate,.
My husband has MF and myleodisplasia and is now dependant on blood transfusions and is on Vidaza. We spoke to his haematologist yesterday and she said a glass of wine as far as she is concerned is not a problem. Hope this helps.
hi Twinkly
I do have the odd glass of wine, enjoy it at the time, then feel yuk afterwards. Alcohol does not seem to agree with me now in any amount, so virtually given up drinking it unless a very small amount on a special occasion. Regards Aime
I don't drink alcohol at all for I feel like I have the flu for the next 3 days.
I treat myself with special coffee drinks or a Shirley Temple. It doesn't bother me
I just don't drink as it makes me feel rough. As I haven't had alcohol for a number of years, it's amazing how often you end up being the taxi!!.
Good wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Mark
Hello Mother LOL no cheek from breezy Blackpool honest.. . Although beer tasting is one of my daily pastimes I would say you don't need alcofrol to enjoy yourself and there are some reasonable alcohol free wines available along with other 'soft' mineral or root type drinkies. Actually it's rather satisfying watching peops behaviour when they are getting blotto and you're jober as a sudge. I make sure I get their pics when they're at their worst.
I'm very fortunate - if thats the right word - to be able to drink and it not affect me adversely, other than simply being inebriated, and one of my fears about moving off Hydrox onto a new drug is I won't have that level of tolerance. But I gave up smoking by willpower so hey -ho if I had to forego my beloved ale then so be it. I joke that when I eventually get my BMT I want a drip with ale in it. Or one of those hats with a can holder either side and a straw. Perhaps Santa will oblige.
Anyway I would take this opportunity to wish you, the team at MPN Voice and all Forum Members a Peaceful, Happy Christmas and a successful New Year ahead.
Cheers JR
Hi Twinkly,
My partner is on 1500g Hydroxycarbamide and aspirin daily for his ET, jak2neg and still enjoys a drink BUT he cannot drink like he would have been able to before! The first time he did he was very bad then on the second occasion he was really very ill, so now if he goes out to a party he knows how many he can have and stops there I would say you have to find your own level of tolerance and stick to it as we are all different - Happy New year to you

Hi, I struggled to drink on interferon but meds were changed to 1000mg Hydra mon - fri, Oct 2013 and can now drink. I manged to drink over the Xmas and New Year but drank plenty of water along with the alcohol. I can't drink as much as I used to just a few and not to oftern, in the past if I drank too much I'd be so.... I'll it isn't worth it (may also be age aswell, in my 40's). My heam did say I could drink but keep within safe limits which I do most of the time with the exception of holidays/birthdays etc. Not sure how much we can drink and what effect it has on our blood conditions? maybe someone is able to advise?
