ET & interferon

My partner has ET & it's being discussed by the docs that his treatment needs to be changed to interferon. Yet there seems a delay - we get the impression this is due to funding issues. Any ideas or has anyone experienced similar barriers.

Many thanks

Hi. I have been on INTERFERON for over 4 years and this is continuous. I was told that it is very expensive, but is still supported by the NHS. Good luck with your partner's treatment!

Many thanks. Just been told today he has permission to go on interferon, yet his blood results were reasonable so it's on hold for now !

Been on interferon for 15 years. Was refused it at first but consultant was great and insisted it should be provided. Started on 9miu/wk now on 7miu/wk. don't get hardly any side effects now. Bit of a headache that is all I am 60 yrs old male. Still working and golfing

Many thanks for your reply, my partner has been given permission to go onto interferon but today his blood results 2day were reasonable so it's on hold for now ! We see various consultants who seem to hold differing views so it's difficult ! Thankyou . Good to hear you're doing good on the treatment. Best wishes

I was put on Pegasys, which I asked to come off after 6 months. I could not tolerate it and I had many nasty side effects. I hope it works for your partner but it doesn't for everyone, I'm afraid.

We are aware the side effects can be very bad - sad that it didn't suit you, I hope you're coping with an alternative treatment now. Take care
