Can you get Botox for Migraines at the National Migraine Centre? (if prescribed by one of your Doctors)
Yes you can. If you are interested just give us a call and we can discuss the procedure (0207 251 3322). We do have to charge for this treatment however as the drug costs us a significant amount of money so we need to over costs.
How long does botox work for?
I had one botox injection in January of this year. I paid £99.00 for it and the doctor gave me a cast iron promise that my migraines would stop. They didn't. In fact the one I had within a day or two of the injection was so awful and frightening I really thought I was having a stroke. I know some people have had good results with botox but my experience was dreadful.
Hello, oh I'm so sorry you had such an awful experience and I'm very surprised that your Doctor would make such a promise, incredibly unprofessional. Especially as, I believe, it takes three rounds of Botox for full efficacy to be determined. I have actually had one round of Botox done (a while ago) - and it did give me a migraine later that day - but my Doctor had warned me that this would most likely occur. I did also have strange tingling sensations while the Botox 'kicked' in - but we're all different aren't we? 99 pounds also seems quite cheap for one round too? Did you get it by a Neurologist at a Headache clinic? Again, really sorry you had such a horrific experience, really hope you find something that works better next time! You better book an appointment at the National Migraine Centre!
Sorry - also meant to add this fact sheet on Botox that I found on the Centre's website! migraineclinic.org.uk/wp-co...
Dr Elrington of the NMC features on Sky News video this morning as Botox may now be available on the NHS for chronic migraine sufferers. I know that Dr Elrington is an expert in this area. news.sky.com/home/uk-news/a...
I agree with Victoria, I don't think that £99 sounds enough to cover the cost price of the toxin let alone the doctors time etc. Obviously it doesn't work for everyone but I am surprised by what you paid which makes me think that this may not have been administered in a neurological setting, rather a cosmetic one. I know the price that the NHS have managed to negotiate botox down to which is considerably higher than this.
If you want to see one of our specialists give us a call to book an appointment on 0207 251 3322.
Thank you for all the feedback. I was given one injection and the clinic was primarily cosmetic however I was reassured by the doctor who is a consultant working in a hospital that the one injection would do the trick and that I would have great results. To be honest, I was pretty desperate at the time and would have tried anything. I have now had a proper neuro referral and I am having the proper tests and investigations -finally - so I won't be tempted by any more quick fix approaches. I really appreciate everyone's concerned comments and I find this forum very supportive.
