Migraine and Tinnitus

Hi, I am a 64 year old man and suffered with severe migraine since childhood, about four years ago I started with Tinnitus which has been permanent since, I have tried Botox and many different migraine medications throughout the years, I have recently been given Anjovy which I am reluctant to try due to side effects, I have various opinions from medical staff regarding this, some say it will make tinnitus worse and others that it could cure it. Can I ask if anyone has experience of this. Thank you.

While I am unable to speak about the Tinnitus, I can give advice about the migraines. Have you seen a Migraine Specialist ( they only treat people with migraines)? Are you taking any preventatives?

I was in your same boat and after lots of research I discovered many people with migraines have low levels of Magnesium. You can take up to 1600mg daily. I take it 3x a day 500mg. I did not start there, built up. In addition, I take Feverfew 2x a day.

It may take up to 3 months for the Magnesium to work, but your migraines should get less painful then, the number you have should get less.

Also, do you know about the HeadsUp podcast? It is run by 2 UK migraine specialist,.I have learned so much from them.

Do you wake up with them?

Are you taking any injectable medications?

I could give you lots more advice. Let's start there

Hi. I've got both as well ànd I've never heard that the anti CGRP injections can have any effect on tinnitus. Have you had your hearing checked? Whatever happens to your tinnitus and whatever causes it, you need to talk to your GP about it and deal with it separately to your migraines. Botox has massive side effects as well as all these horrible medic they want you to take. Only you can decide where you want to go not doctors. Good luck.

Can I asked whom stated it would cure the tinnitus.. I never suffered migraines like I just started having 1 year ago and that’s since menopause and then one day my ear just seemed to high pitch out so bad I had my hand on my ear then my ear started ringing 24/7 it’s soul destroying I don’t know if it’s louder. Is of a migraine or not but it pitches up and down all the time then sometimes I’m like is my ear stopped.. anjoy is good but the tinnitus hasn’t stopped

Hi, I have had chronic daily migraines since childhood and developed tinnitus around 3 years ago. I tried Ajovy and it didn’t have any effect on my tinnitus. The only side effect I had was minor hair loss. Unfortunately, it didn’t help my migraines much so I came off it. But I would recommend giving it a try.

My husband is on CGRP monoclonal antibody injections, Ajovy, and he is getting less migraines, although still gets them. He hasn't suffered with tinnitus but has has minor hair loss. Karen

Everyone is different, so trying won't harm. Ajovy is not meant to cure Tinnitus but you never know. After all, the underlying reason of Tinnitus is thought to be an imbalance of normal brain activity. I would try Ajovy for a few months to see how it goes.

At this time in our lives, there is no cure for tinnitus - it's just a pain in the backside (ears). I'm 56 and have chronic migraine and have had/noticed tinnitus over the last 10 years which increased over the last two years. I tended to blame it on being a result of trying particular medication for migraine, but there is no good research out there to support this. The best thing is to rule out any other cause of the tinnitus, but you've probably already done this. If you've tried everything else I'd be brave and give anjovy a go for your migraines. Didn't work for me but I only gave it the one try. Wishing you all the best.
