extreme tiredness with migraines

Do others get extreme tiredness with migraines? Even mild ones where the headache isn’t too bad, I seem to get extreme tiredness/fatigue and a feeling of being unable to do anything apart from lie down. Is this a common symptom with migraines ? Thanks

hello there, I have had migraine with aura for many years and tiredness is a symptom for me.Sometimes as part of the aura I feel extremely tired, I just want to flop down and do nothing. This can obviously last throughout the headache phase and last for a day or two after.Another symptom for me is excessive yawning, one yawn after another. This also signals a migraine us on its way for me.Hope this helps.

Thanks - yes I think mine does start before the headache too. I find the tiredness almost more debilitating than the headache - although does depend how bad it is.

tiredness - before, during and after is a common symptom of migraines.

Without medication I sleep through the full 48 hrs of a migraine. Go to bed, close the curtains, put the radio on, get up when I actually hear a full 30 minute programme - usuallty 2 days later. Medication will enable me to keep going, in great discomfort, but I will still have to collapse and sleep for the usual 48 hr after I stop taking the medication. I think it is part fo the body trying to ensure that we do not overwork ourselves and get a good rest. Migraine runs in the family and both my mum and I kept a stock of emergency food in fridge and pantry so husband and kids could cater for themselves at a moment's notice. My boys loved it - no nagging and 2 days of pizza

Since I've been on the CGRP injector I get extreme tiredness. Before I was tired but not so extremely tired, sometimes I fall asleep for 10 minutes while sitting on the sofa. Im a severely chronic insomniac, falling asleep in this way was unheard for me before the CGRP.

Thanks everyone. Yes I think my tiredness is worse since being on CGRP too but I don’t know if maybe I’m just noticing it more as the headache is less severe. But obviously is a common symptom of migraine generally - thanks

I too am always sooo tired! I struggle every morning to get up and never feel rested and ready for the day. It’s a constant battle. Interesting that you have mentioned it’s worse since CGRP injections, I’ve been on this treatment for 5 months but can’t remember if the tiredness has changed as my life seems to be a migraine / exhaustion cycle constantly!!

In the past few months since my migraines have gotten worse (pain wise) and frequency I am absolutely exhausted and fatigued. I often have to nap throughout the day. My body feels so heavy.

Yes! I experience extreme fatigue before and during a migraine attack. It can be worse than the migraine pain, debilitating.

Yes I agree! My tiredness has actually improved quite a bit over the past couple of weeks. I don’t know if it is less severe migraines from the injections or also started HRT 3 weeks ago and I think perhaps that has helped with the extreme tiredness.

I had post viral fatigue from a gastric virus and then got covid in the same month (both in September ). I am just exhausted all the time and I am not a good sleeper even though I take a sleeping tablet. My neurologist said that all his patients that got covid their migraines got much worse,at the moment all I have are naproxen and triptans 8 days a month. Everyday since 2019 I have chronic daily migraine.I also have comorbid health problems as well. It is 4am now and I am in too much pain to go to bed.Regards 195fifi.
