Ive had it for 10 years, doesnt help the pain but really helps me sleep and im an insomniac so I couldn't be without it!

I've been on it for about 3 years now, I started with 10mg per night, which has gradually had to increase to 20mg and now to 30mg. It definitely helps me to get a good night's sleep, and has also reduced the frequency and the severity of my headaches - it's been a lifesaver for me!

Thank you

I am getting different responses and I am still not sure if it would work for me . I guess the only way to find out is to try.

I am glad it worked for you.

I hope it's helping you. I've just increased to 40mg per night as the headaches were becoming more frequent again, and it's really helped. It does worry me a bit though that I'm gradually having to increase. My doctor told me that you can go up to 50mg per night and that can all help, but I don't think there are any improved benefits higher than that, so we shall see.

Hello Hope, I had been on 25mg of Endep (Amitriptilyne) for about 12 years for migraines which was ok but they started getting worse over the last several months. Dosage increased to 75 mg and no resolve, in fact became worse in hindsight. Specialist diagnosed "Transformed" Migraine, and prescribed anti epileptic medication used for out of control migraine (Topiramate) which has worked extremely well for me at this time. While I was on 25 mg Endep for years it was ok but when the dose was increased to 75 mg, (even though 75 mg is still quite a low dose) my headaches increased, the higher dose actually caused stronger migraines. This was quite evident later when I needed to wean off the Amitriptyline over 4 weeks to start the Topiramate. I recall having NO crushing debilitating migraines during this 4 weeks. I did have withdrawal symptoms and headaches, felt sick had to lie down etc but the killer pain wasn't there. I still needed to take acute pain medication such as rizatriptan, codiene, aspirin and so on but now look back and doubt if I would go down a high dose Amitriptyline path. But thats for me, unfortunately theres no one size fits all, just try your best girl, do what your doing, get as much info as you can then you can make YOUR OWN informed decision. Hope you get relief, tryn have a nice day, bye, Johnboy01.

I started out with 15mg of Amitriptyline and got up to 35mg in 2010. I found it made me way too drowsy during the day, so I didn't continue. The side effects stopped pretty soon after stopping the medication (unlike with Topiramate), so I'm not concerned about it having caused any permanent damage, hence its one I'd say there's no harm in trying.

Hi i had amitriptyline for ten years along with beta blockers for preventative. Worked well. If people dont want the knocking out effect id suggest asking for nortriptyline which is more expensive so docs dont give it . Aft 10 years both if these drugs stopped working for me and now ive had one long continuous pain for a year. No drug at all has any effect. Tried ajovy injections and botox 31 injections x 1. Due a second go at botox end of april 2021. Cost me thousands up to now due to COVID .referrals being denied on nhs. Id be grateful for any advice from anyone further down the line than me.
