Bright flashing lights trigger migraine and seizure?

Hi I went roller skating at night with bright flashing disco lights and loud music. Took about 40 minutes but then I had migraine kick in.

In bed later that night I thought I had a mild seizure. But I don’t know what a seizure is like as I only had 1 before, in hospital first day of viral meningitis. That was 8 years ago.

Then this week, strong migraine then in bed, felt like my brain turned over, like a rolling jolt. Like a short circuit. Been feeling shit house since, like a migraine hangover.

Has anyone had seizures from migraines or bright lights? How will I know if it was a seizure? So weird.

Flashing or bright lights are more usually associated with triggering an epilepetic seizure of one sort or another, though only in a small percentage of cases. It is also possible for migraine to be triggered - most commonly aura migraine, but again, it's not that common. Certain forms of migraine and epilepsy are very closely linked, with the same pathways of expression in the brain. On the other hand, an epileptic event can also trigger a severe headache.

If you really want to try and find out what exactly happened, you need to consult your neurologist.

Yes. Flashing lights, disco balls, flashing neon, flashing on a screen/ movie or computer or tv can all cause migraine and seizure. Definitely. Migraine and epilepsy are linked in the brain function. It is not that uncommon, quite the contrary. Protect yourself and stay away or wear dark glasses if can’t be avoided. Also blue blocker glasses help when around LED, which are also deadly for migraine.

Hi diet is going good but prob too much fruit. I’m counting calories too lose weight so eating lots of veg greens but low gi carbs.cant go no carbs as was getting too weak. So diet great, but disco lights clearly a problem. Shame as I love giant disco balls.
