My migraines have changed over the past 2 years. I've had them since age 12 now 53. Controlled well with triptans for 14 years then last 2 years have become more chronic with vomiting every episode. I have tried amitryptiline (not useful) and then topiramate (great but stopped due to side-effects). Now I am relying on triptans and just started taking cyclizine for the nausea. Happy to say that I haven't had a vomiting episode since January! My migraines seem to last longer though. Just wondering if anyone else uses cyclizine and how they find it, does it prolong migraine? Also any other meds out there? I've tried buccal Prochlorperazine but it didn't stop me vomiting.
Would love to hear how people are dealing with nausea and vomiting.

Thanks Aundrea, unfortunately the cyclizine did not work this time and I'vw just had a 26 hour bout of non-stop vomiting. I will look into Paramax, thank you.
my migraine also became worse once I hit 50 going from episodic to chronic. Sickness has been a real problem for me too. I have tried Domperidone, Ondansetron, Metraclpromide, and Prochlorperazine. For me Domperidone works best with little side effects. I think trial and error is the key to find what works for you best. And take the anti sickness at the start of migraine don't wait till you start feeling sick as at this point I find its too late and nothing will stay in my stomach.
Maybe it is not the medication that is prolonging your migraine but the migraine is getting more persistent? If your having more than 8 migraine days per month get referred to a headache clinic and try another preventative treatment.
Thank you Diamond 50, the cyclizine didn't work this time so I am so happy to get your reply. I am up and about now and will make an appointment to see my Dr again and ask for Domperidone. I did ask her for this at my last consult but she said something about long Q??? I will have to look it up and go back and say I have it from fellow sufferers that Domperidone is the best. Thanks again
Hi Licorice99, I also have had the most success with Domperidone and take it at that onset of the attack. Although it doesn't last for the duration of the migraine episode (which typically lasts 2-3 days), it helps ease the nausea at the beginning. I suffer from very severe nausea during attacks and it is one of the aspects of migraine that I most hate. For the last episode, I tried something that a traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner had recommended. I sipped on hot water with fresh ginger slices and about a teaspoon of honey. For me, this stopped the nausea in it's tracks, but I realise that everyone is different and that it may not work for others. It may not even work for me next time (!) but thought that it was worth passing on. I think that the other reply mentioning going to a Headache Clinic is excellent advice. There are preventives out there that will help you that don't necessarily have to cause excessive side effects. Keep asking for more help from the right people. Wishing you every success in your search. All the best, Clydelle
Thank you Clydelle, I am going to ask for Domeridone and thanks for the Ginger remedy I will definitely try that. I have been on topiramate but lost a lot of hair so am now back to square 1. I will ask for a referral back to the neuro. I realise that migraines do change and what worked before can change so we need to be persistent. Thanks for your advice it means a lot.
For migraine prophylaxis you may ask your doctor to try Duloxetine, number of people have benefited after failure with Amitriptyline. For nausea, you can purchase homeopathic medicine called Ipecac 6 - this can help.
Hi I had severe vomiting for 2-3days every three weeks. I now take magnesium and vitamin D daily. When I feel an attack coming on I take cyclizine and ondanestron three times a day. My GP will not give me domperidone as it increases heart attack risk. Good luck.
Thanks GRANFRAN that's really useful. Yes that's what my GP said about domperidone for me. Will ask about adding in ondanestron and get on the supplements. Cheers
