I'm waiting on approval to come through, but my neurologist has put in an order for Botox treatments after several other failed treatments. In September I had 27 days with migraines (mix of standard and hemiplegic). I'm hopeful but nervous and was hoping to hear from other hemiplegic migraine sufferers that had seen a decrease in monthly migraines with Botox treatments.
Has anyone with hemiplegic migraines ... - National Migraine...
Has anyone with hemiplegic migraines had success with Botox?
I have a mix of migraines including hemiplegic (easily 5-6 days of migraines each week) and Botox was the most helpful out of everything that I tried. I am taking a break from Botox after only one treatment to try prolotherapy as my migraines have now been linked to a neck/ligament/cervical spine injury but Botox reduced them by more than half!
I had permanent hemaplegic and other migraines my hemaplegic migraines are now minimal and my everyday migraines are at a 60 % reduction have had botox for 2 and half years and now have my life back . It works differently evertime u have it but its been the best treatment so far . Its not a cure but its made a massive difference for me x
Thank you- this is what I'm hopeful for. I had read somewhere that the first treatment can be painful and feel like it hasn't worked. I've given up being able to body surf or hike again, but if this can help me make it through a full work week, I will be so grateful.
It is painful each time and some times are more successful than others . Outside factors i.e stress and lack of sleep can still set me off when the botox wears off it took me a few treatments for it to build up and work properly i am an electrican and i can manage to go kick boxing each week and get out on my motocross bike more regularly and i can drive as previously i wasnt well enough to drive on a regular basis x
I have had great relief of my hemiplegic migraines with botox. In fact it is the only thing that has helped me. I was having episodes every month and I maybe have one every 6 months and it is not nearly as bad as it was in the past. In the past I went to the ER at U of M the doctor from the stroke team was in with me right away because I couldn't speak and one side of my body was not responding the same and I was in a CT within 5-10 mins of my arrival. I've been on botox for 3 years now. My botox wears off about 3 weeks before my next injection so I get a nerve block to bridge that gap.
Your 1st experience sounds really similar to mine. You kind of helped answer another question I had, which was how long people stay on this treatment... I'm worried about the expense, as well. Co-pays are pretty intense.
No help tried 4 sessions
I just got my first trail done .. it wasn't too painful worse spots are the forhead and the hairline on ur forhead. In my head was ok stung like bee stings. And I had allot of pain in my shoulders. Been almost 24 hrs. I have some soreness and tenderness.. but other then that it's tingling and feels weird. I have mirgaines bad every night to be a serve car accident I was in and damage my nerves in my head and neck.. I feel better.. im sore . But my headache aren't bad not like it's been.. takes little time to fully kick in but I feel free of a major painful migraine I deal with everynight..
