Hi, I wondered if anyone else had tried Gabapentin as a preventative and what their experience of this was? After having tried quite a few preventatives my doctor has put me on this, though it's not licensed for migraine use.

I too have had the problem of not finding anything that works for me! I took gabapentin for around 7/8 weeks and got up to 600 mg a day (300 in the morning 300 at night).

I didn't really get many side effects on gabapentin, the ones I did get weren't the worst I have had but the also weren't the most pleasant ones either. I got very dizzy, tired and weak, I almost passed out a few times both out and at home! I also found myself being very emotional, I am already but this was another level, and I got irritated a lot, but most migraine medication does that to me!

Unfortunately gabapentin didn't work for me, it lessened the 8s down to a 6 but didn't change the frequency or length of my migraines. I have, however, met people that got beyond 600mg and it worked amazingly for them and that's all they take now!

I hope this has helped and I hope you find a preventative that works for you soon!

Hi

I was put on Gabapentin about 2 months ago after trying so many migraine preventatives and none of them worked for me and awful side effects . I must say I was expecting the same with Gabapentin but they work for me and the only side effect I have is feeling tired . My migraines are much better and no dizziness .

Good luck they are worth a try I hope they work for you too x
