I had horrible side effects from topirimate - pins and needles in my fingers which was only minor, but really bad anxiety (which I don't normally suffer at all). I persisted in the hope it would ease but it got so bad I didn't sleep for two nights and I thought I was going mad, so I went back to see a different doctor and she took me straight off them, saying she'd had several patients with severe side effects. One bonus was I lost a stone in six weeks! I have read on here that some people tolerate them well, and do get a reduction in migraines so it might be worth you persisting with them but monitor the side effects closely. Good luck.

I felt really odd on topiramate, spaced out sort of dizzyness too. Took them about 8pm and felt really odd until about midday the next day. Felt a bit more normal during the afternoons. This continued for the 3 months I was on them. Hope these helps re wire your brain and the migraines lessen

I felt constantly sick, couldn't eat, had bad tingling in thumbs and big toes and got very depressed. I gave up after three months because it wasn't working anyway.

I have tried so many prophylactic drugs since I developed chronic migraine nearly 5 years ago (one year after menopause when doctors say that they should get better!) I was on Topiramate for over 2 months a couple of years back and had horrible side effects....limb pain, overwhelming sadness /low mood, cognitive dullness. I know that it works well for many people but not me. Best of luck!

Are you taking different medication now?

Yes.... I have almost run out of options....tried all the usual ones offered. (They either don't work of I can't tolerate side effects as dose is increased). I have recently started Flunarizine and as yet no bad effects and a slight improvement in pain levels.

Tried everything too ,given gabapentin as last option have you tried those?

No....gabapentin is one I have avoided....heard that it causes fatigue and have enough of that haha! I am just hoping that Flunarizine will break the daily cycle so will have to wait and see. Indomethacin was considered but I can't tolerate this type either. What options are left for you?
