Hi I am new on here , have been told today that I am suffering from silent migraines quite relived about that as what I have been going through has been so frighting , had my self dead and buried as really thought I had a brain tumour , it has been playing games with my eyes , the last few weeks have been a nightmare , my consultant was brilliant and it was him that gave me this site address ,so as from today am going to be going down a new road and hoping to hear other people's advice and maybe making some new friends down this new road .

Hi Ginanne and welcome 😃 well you are definitely in the right place 😃.

I have the all singing all dancing migraines but I'm sure we have a few silent ones here 😃 and you'll get lots of advice .

It's an absolutely horrific curse and this site is the best thing i done 😃.

My migraines vary from silent through to headaches and violent gut spasms. I went for years before hearing about silent migraines from an old school friend (left school over 35 years ago!) and her sister who I meet regularly once a week and realised that what the sister was describing - flashing lights and visual disturbances - was part of what I experience. The sister is an artist so it really does affect her ability to work.

I get different types of visual disturbances - and there are days when I just give up and recognise that focusing isn't something that is going to happen today - I see lots of shooting stars or have a haze in the background - sometimes I have a disturbance that just jumbles up one part of my vision - and if it is in the centre of my field of vision that is bad. I also get patches of colour ... sometimes they develop into the full works but not always.

Glad it wasn't as bad as you feared though it can still be quite debilitating.

Hi, I just found this site today, but have had migraines since a teen and am now almost 50. I never heard of "silent migraines" before. I have recently started getting exactly what you described, but without a headache hitting. That aura used to be less intense for me and used to always mean a headache following. It feels like I had had a migraine after the "visions"(extremely tired and fuzzy thinking), but I never got a migraine. Glad to see it isn't just me!

Hi I reached 60 back in January , and it was like one morning woke to all these eye flashings and no vision except to the side , shot off to A and E and was told I had a migraine going on , I thought hang on I don't have any head pain and was told it was a silent migraine a headache with out the pain but what it did do was muck my eyes around , plus put me in to a full panic attack. Now when eyes play up I still tend to go off in to a panic attack but am learning to calm my self down and just wait for my eyes to relax , feel so tired and worn out and confused and mussey headed, worried I am doing something to trigger these sessions off , , like you I have never had a migraine , I really pleased to be able to talk to some one else about this horrible problem . Gina

Yep it was very frighting , like you some days it's just like my eyes do not want to work as they should, the light hurts , my head will feel fuzzy and I get confused and very tired , I still tend to get a bit panicky when the eyes play up , have got to learn to calm my self down as panicky just makes it worse , thank you for replying . Gina .

I've had the silent ones and the "noisy" ones too. The problem with the silent ones is there's nothing to see so people don't realise its a migraine.

I feared the worse a few times but I'm still here! Things have got much better. Just need to remember to deal witj the things that trigger them, like remembering to wear my glasses!

Hope things improve soon.

Thank you for your reply , your right about the glasses but even reading for a short time will set one off , it effects the left eye only and head pain is not to bad , had a couple that have been really bad which leaves me very tired , but when the eye sight is bad I have a panic attack which I have got to learn to chill out when they strike they just make it worse .
