hi can anyone help, I've been having botox for migraines since December 2013, but the neurologist I'm seeing thinks that the reduction from 19-20 a month to 8 a month is not proving of value. As you can imagine I disagree, so I'm looking for a Dr who specialises in migraine on the NHS in London could anybody recommend someone.

Botox treatments
Sorry, can't help with a name as I live in the Midlands. But I disagree with your neurologist! I have botox to manage chronic pain and it also helps my migraines, along with some atenolol (reduced the number of attacks and I rarely need pain relief now when I'm having a migraine). I spoke to the doctor who does my injections the other day, and she also works in a migraine clinic, and was very clear that the point of botox was to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks, and that it wouldn't stop them altogether.
It sounds to me that the big reduction in your attacks IS significant, and the important thing is the difference it makes to YOUR life, not to your neurologist. Is there some sort of cost-cutting, rationing going on in your hospital?
I hope you get what you need.
Hi Teadrinker
I have asked my GP to refer my for a second opinion, but I think your right it could be a cost cutting exersice as he's not even following NICE regulations for Botox treatment as it says if you have a 30% reduction from the 1st treatment it is affective. There is a confusing bit about still having 15 headaches a month. But I don't think it means they all have to be migrane attacks it could be your bog standard headache, admittedly I have been counting them.
I would recommend Professor Goadsby at Kings College London, my son sees him on the NHS and this is the first Dr who has been able to help the pain at all!
Second Professor Goadsby! Only neurologist who helped me, after about 40 years of trying to find someone who actually understood my condition.
I signed up for the Botox medical trials 9 years ago & Botox has really eased the pain.
I am a patient of Professor Goadsby too, cannot recommend him enough!
