Has anyone gone on disability for migraines?
Hi troublemaker, as far as I,m aware you are not entitled to any benefits if you suffer from migraine I made enquiries into this last year as I decided to quit my job after years of struggling to keep on top of it and three young children to bring up.
I even wrote to my local MP but got no joy because when you do not have migraine you are fit to work! Which is true but when you have one every week and are then off sick you become a liability to your employer.
It just goes to show the lack of knowledge and understanding of migraine disease and how debilitating it really is.
Things may have changed so it's still worth looking into as every case is different.
Sorry I can't give a more positive response
I get benefits because of my migraines and have been assessed by Atos but had to fight the outcome before being awarded my benefits. I also have another complication of nerve damage to my right arm. I don't know of anyone who gets benefit just through migraines but maybe?
Atos...eventually! Decided that it would be too dangerous to work given migraines/nerve pain and associated meds/after effects.
I received income support due to my migraines and chronic tension type headaches which was my diagnosis. I went to the appointment and told the doc everything that was happening to me I was awarded income support as i had not paid enough for disability. They didnt ask for another appointment until 2 years later, so i must have got my point across! However this was ten years ago and im currently not on benefit though thinking of going back to it if i can unfortunately. maybe some of the migraine charities can help you?
