Magnesium supplement

Has anyone got any advice on which type of magnesium supplement is best for chronic migraine with aura, the dose and when to take it? Read a few posts, but feel super confused by the options. Thank you!

I have seen a number of Neurologist and they all tell me the same thing: 1600mg is the max dose. I take 3x.a day 500mg magnesium glycinate. The noon dose helps the most. I sometimes get to lunch time and feel a tinge of pain and after I take the magnesium it goes away. This type is a little hard to find. I started with magnesium citrate becuase it was easier to get locally. After I didn't see any diff we rent after 4-5 months so I tapered off the now take glycinate.

It took about 3 months before I noticed each migraine getting less painful. Then I got less per week.

I also follow my regular routine and never skip a meal. Drink lots of water and make sure I eat protein at each meal.

I have also started using peppermint oil to breath in when it gets bad.

Hope you can find relief from taking it.

Good luck.

I use these, 1a m, 1 pm. Not sure they help with aura migraines, but nothing to loose!

From what I have learned, if it has not stopped migraines then increase to amount until you are taking 1600mg daily. If it is not making a difference then change the type.

Thank you both that’s super helpful! I’m currently taking just under 400mg in the morning only (magnesium oxide) so sounds like I need to up it and take it throughout the day. Maybe glycinate would be better too.
