At my latest drug review, it was suggested I taper off pizotifen as I've been on it 6+ years and there may be long term effects on my liver if I keep taking it forever. Blood results ok at the moment.Anyone on here come off it after such a long time? I'm worried about my headaches coming back more frequently (obviously), but also all the effects listed in the leaflet like weight loss, nausea, etc.
Would love to hear some real life experiences.

I tapered off it after about seven or eight years, but only because it had gradually become less effective and I couldn't increase the dose any more. No one ever suggested I should stop taking it.Since then, I've trialled all the available migraine prophylactics that a GP can prescribe and never had as good control as I did with pizotifen, so I kind-of regret it. (Of course, this may have happened anyway as my attacks were becoming more frequent, which I think was partly due to a change of climate.)
If it works for you and you don't want to come off it, I would ask for the research/clinical guidelines that the doctor is using to say you should come off it. What are they suggesting you take instead, or do they want you to not have any migraine prophylaxis at all?
