Coming off sandomigrane

Hi my doctor wants me to come off sandomigrane and won't give me a repeat prescription. I'm terrified that I'm going to start getting horrendous migraines again. How do I wean myself off the tablets?

I was warned by my Dr to give up chocolate as it was causing my Migraine's. Which I found to be true. Weaning off the tablets will take more will power then anything. You can do it : )

Hi Dfraser, do you absolutely have to come off it? If it is working, like the saying goes "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

Could you see another more understanding Doctor? They can't make you stop taking it, they can only advise you, your health is a shared partnership with your Doctor.

I used to take Sanomigran, which I have just found out has been discontinued, is this the reason? There are generics available which I now have to take. I was having several migraines per week and it is the only thing that stops them.

If you HAVE to come off it, I would advise Very, VERY slowly, there can be horrendous problems if it is withdrawn suddenly.

If I can be of more help, please just ask, I'm around most days. annie x

Hi Annie yes the more I think about it the more I'm thinking I'll go and see another dr. It is the only thing which has reduced my migraines. I know before when I ran out of my tablets and didn't refill the prescription I got a horrendous migraine. As my migraines last a week and I get nausea/vomiting I'm not very keen to stop the one thing which is helping!! Thanks for your help

Hi Dfraser, I know what you mean about the nausea/vomiting, I get that, it's really debilitating.

All the best, annie

Hope you find a decent solution. The neurologist I see advised me to come off prevention meds about 3months ago.

I weaned myself off in the correct manner, reducing dose and have suffered loads & loads since.

I'm back to missing family events as after the pain has gone the auras and sickness make it impossible for me to gain my balance and be in normal daylight.

I would strongly recommend, finding out why Dr refuses to give you another prescription/wants you off the prevention meds. (Sorry if you said on your intro-I've forgotten already!).

Ask if you can see a specialist-maybe a neurologist!

Good luck. Pea x
