Hi there,

As far as I know, Gabapentin is primarily used to treat various forms of epilepsy, but it is also given for its secondary benefits for peripheral neuropathic pain, but I have not heard of it being prescribed to improve sleep. Do talk to your GP or pharmacist about this, but also take a look at the Electronic Medicines Compendium online which gives both pharmaceutical info for the healthcare professional, and easy to read information for patient/public Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...

Hope this helps.

I take it to help me sleep. It was prescribed by my psychiatrist. At first I was surprised bc my mom takes it for nerve pain to help her sleep but I was having anxiety that was waking me up and not letting me sleep. My mom also had very weird vivid dreams when she first started taking it. The side effect eventually wore off. I did not have any side effects. My psychiatrist said it’s sort of mild so I could take up to 400 mg as the 100 mg wasn’t helping. But I take 300 mg. Have you started taking it?
