Maybe give it a couple more days and then if no improvement make appointment to see your GP as they can try another antidepressant if this one is not working. I am on mirtazipine and it seems to suit me but everyone is different and something else may suit you better. Six weeks is a sort of imbetween time. They may want you to continue for just a little longer, up to eight weeks but no harm in going to see the doctor sooner if you really feel its not helping.

I took this a few years ago and I found it knocked me out .. They took me off it and put me on sertraline

I was given that for my migranes.

I'd suggest seeing you GP again if you feel they are not working.

I have been on mirtazpine for over 2 years now. When i first started them i didn't notice an improvement with my depression for absolutely ages, 2 months nearly. If you are still feeling anxious after that time, i would make an appointment with your doctor.

I am also on Mirtazapine along with Depakote and Venlafaxine, although only maintenance dosages i.e. not high dosages which for the past year have worked well, the mirtazapine helping to give me a good nights sleep every night. I also on my own initiative take a high dosage of fish oil. This cocktail works well for me a bipolar 2 sufferer. In fact it is working so well I have felt very happy and contented over the past year. I have never had much anxiety although obviously depression always generates some anxiety, but mine has always been pretty minimal.

Of course I have no idea what the contribution of each of these is and i think it likely there could well be other cocktails that would be even better for me. The variety of cocktails given the number of drugs available now plus variation in dosage added to the fact that every sufferer is different means that it is almost impossible to compare experiences of drug effectiveness.

I also suspect, hopefully without being over confident, that my 50 years of fighting episodes of quite severe depression has given me a lot of experience in fighting depression successfully.

Anyway the end result is very good at the moment and has been for a year plus.

If you google the site drugs.com you'll find a wonderful American site where a lot of users report on their experience with practically every drug you can think of. Being America, with its large population there are lots of reports, but the variation between users shows how different each sufferer is.

I also think that it will be a miracle if my current cocktail of drugs works for ever. i fully expect more episodes of depression, but I don't fear them anymore as I have a lot of confidence (not 100% though ) that I can deal with them , probably even without drugs, but the drugs do make it easier.
