Not sure what your question is? I used to have to take it for an overactive thyroid, its very good at slowing the heart rate. Later in life I sometimes took it (prescribed of course) just before piano exams to try to control the panic.

Hi . I have just put a question Betablockers Advice please because my Doctor gave me propranolol yesterday for palpitations and dizziness caused by anxiety. I read leaflet and don't really like sound of them.  I may take one to see if they help because the dizziness is awful especially as I am nearly 72 and afraid to fall over.   Have you been prescribed them for same reason as me? They are a waste of time for anxiety. My doctor told me that. Surgeons take crap loads of the stuff to steady their hand during surgery. Its basically a drug a gp will give you because your problem exceedes their specialist knowledge. Try going to a mental health doctor, one whos been in the field for longer than youve been alive. Makes all the difference

Hi lin, I did find d they helped a little but at the time my condition was deteriorating badly and it ended up surgery was the only option left which led to total system failure and a month in ICU, But that was over 40 yrs ago now, so now when I take them the reasons are not quite the same.

It sounds like you need more information or investigation into the why you are having the palpitations and dizzy spells as it must be more important to treat the cause rather than the symptoms? You may need a pacemaker to regulate your heart rate as this is proved to be extremely successful?

One thing that does help a lot is regular meditating focusing on breathing and the heart, I have found if I used a mantra after while I could incorporate that to use when overcome by stress. Things don't always work first time round as naturally every situation will always be different, but it helps a little and as the saying goes, every little helps.

I hope things improve very soon, it sounds very difficult for you at the moment. Lots of hugs, Moni x

Hi Moni, thanks for replying and advice.  I only get palpitations and dizziness when I am having a bad do with anxiety. The anxiety lasts for 6 weeks then I am back to normal.  In fact I don't think it's depression I have,it's more like anxiety but luckily I don't get panic attacks.  Normally I am very sociable and outgoing but when anxiety strikes I feel so bad everything is a huge effort.   All I want to do is stay in the house and not see anyone.  Everyone on is this forum is so helpful as mental illness is not a subject people know a lot about. Take care Lin xx

They are also so useless he gave them me as 'PRN'. Just saying, find a specialist as GP's are there really as triage for serious conditions and direct you to specialists. Or supposed to anyway.
