Hi. I understand the courage needed to contact a doctor. I have anxiety and depression and it is hard to let anyone know what is going on for fear of imagined consequences.

Some part of me knows that my fears and the feelings of uselessness are not real but i still have to cope with them.

I try to distance my irrational thoughts from the more grounded, often practical ones. i am probably the only person who thinks i am useless.

I f I do get anxious and start worrying I have to say to myself it is only flawed thinking, it wont help and it will pass. Then i can apply some rational thought with questions - What else might they say? What have I done that is a successful example? What do I want to happen?

Write that stuff down too.

Most doctors accept people have real problems without visible signs and are helpful but you can help by describing the anxiety, or more easily, when it happens, what sets it off and perhaps how you remember doing things differently in the past. it helps to put it into perspective and give examples.

I have no experience of diazapram and have no clue what fribo is!

Take care

Dave

I'm glad the doctor was supportive. I now have checked Fibro. It must be a terrible condition to live with. I hope you get the support you need for both anxiety and fibro. Dave

It is good that you have managed to contact a doctor. Fibromyalgia is very difficult to live with as is anxiety. It is a good idea to write things in a list. Good luck with your appointment and sorry you are so low. :)

can't really add anything to the posts above.

Important thing is not to believe those voices in your head that are telling you that you are useless or that the doctors appointment will make you worse. It is just, if not more likely that the doctor will listen to you and make some helpful suggestions ... and even if they don't then you may find another doctor is totally different. Try to entertain the possibility that things might go well.

Have you had a look at the anxiety fora on Health Unlocked - you might find one of them, eg Anxiety Support. helpful.

Hi

I missed your original post until today - I also have fibro as well as depression - have you seen the fibro community on Health Unlocked? It is great for info, support and advice. I am glad things went well with your GP, do continue using the site for day to day support, you don't have to need specific advice, sometimes it helps just to have someone to share moans or good times with.
