I had a prolapse disc years ago...severe pain unable to stand..scan..then chiropractor visits x 8...acupuncture initially helped release the muscle spasm...took 2yrs to recover..can walk fine...cycling...and...occasional jogging with caution.

Thank you for your help , what's a prolapsed disc? I'm presently on meds , about to try IDD therapy .

Pardon my ignorance, but what is IDD?

It's when the spongy gel bulges through the exterior lining of the disc like a hernia...and presses on the nerves

Hello mate ,It's a specialised form of traction which my oesteopath mentioned to me ,one of her clients with similar symptoms to mine had " miraculous" results . There are a few videos on " you tube". I'm quietly optimistic that it will at least be a help and I'm being positive but , my condition of several disc bulges will either go away over time with the usual meds/ stretches or it won't, and then it's a small operation.

I wish you all the very best and hope you get better , it's very annoying/ painful almost all of the time and I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Good luck mate ,

Mick.

Hi. Sorry to hear about your back problem. I've had a herniated disk for 40 years, and 6 months ago I suddenly suffered excruciating pain in my back and loss use of my right leg, coupled with severe leg pain and numbness. I had a spinal MRI but was best helped by my chiro who managed to relieve the pressure on my femoral root. I have still got numbness and a bit of weakness but have improved a lot.

My advice to you is to keep going to the chiro until you feel that the pressure on your nerve has been relieved.

Thank you mate for your advice ,Going to a chiropractor is the one thing i haven't done ! I'm 10 weeks into it all now and I had an MRI at about7 weeks ! I'd been to private physio, then oesteopath then private MRI which was bad enough for them to tell me go to a and e now! After a 4pm-11 am time span seen at 6pm then in the morning the conclusion was that my symptons didn't were better than the MRI would lead you to believe ( iv several disc protrusions) so as surgery is the last option they doubled my meds and sent me home with the warning to watch for the " Red flags" of saddle soreness and incontinence . So far none of those thank Holy God . Its 2 weeks since that and iv seen a Dr who said " I'm where I should be ,for a man of my age , for what's wrong with me" and then 3 days ago a physio appointment which had to stop because I kept having cramps in my left buttock and hamstring . I'm really getting fed up with all this now , I'm married and she's a great girl so I'm very lucky, but been home alone this last week as she had a holiday with her sister ,and it really brought it home to me where I'm at and how debilitating this is.

I'm trying IDD therapy ( specialised traction) on Tuesday and feel optimistic , but when I hear that it mostly heals itself within 6 months! I'm not happy. Iv also booked an consultation with a neurosurgeon on 7th June to see what he thinks and am in the process of cashing in my 65 part of my pension to pay for it if it happens.

On a nice note, me and my Mrs had a lively time last year in Wales at Saundersfoot ,Tenby, and Amroth, thank you for getting in touch , I very much hope your feeling better , mick.

Hi Mick, In my experience, apart from the pain the worst part is realising how old you are getting and that you may become reliant on your wife for everyday needs. It's enough to give anyone depression,, and I suspect you're feeling this way a little. Unfortunately the NHS are hopeless when it comes to back pain, as you have found, so I reiterate that a chiropractor would be well worth a try.

Good luck!

Thank you mate , Even though I'm an optimist I know what you mean about depression, I do not allow myself to start thinking the worst .

On your advice I have booked a chiropractor/ pain management consultation , she sounds lovely and almost fell like iv made a friend! I'm due for the IDD treatment on Tuesday so wish me luck ,and on 7th June iv booked a consultation with a neurosurgeon at a private hospital near Cambridge. I'm very much looking forward to his take on things ,and very much hoping I don't need him . It's weird I had a very good day today ,very s l o w l y I mowed the lawn and trimmed the hedges, no bending forward and watching every movement ,but it was alright .

Your right about the NHS it's just overwhelmed . I ain't got any money I'm a postman that does gardening as we , but I'm cashing out the 2nd part of my pension in snticapetion of my operation cost.

Wishing you all the very best , keep your chin up mate.
