Circumcision Infection

Hi all,

Just had my circumcision to correct lifelong phimosis on the NHS (01/6/22). Whilst I would recommend it and needed the op, I've had quite the journey.

Somehow, I contracted an infection pretty much instantly despite following all the rules. This, along with the trauma made urinating very difficult - trickle like. Eventually, event though my bladder was ringing its bell, I could not go! I had to go to A&E where they diagnosed both the infection and a blocked meatus - this they resolved with a children's catheter to clear the blockage. Phew!

The urology unit after this packed me off with a bunch of female catheters to self-dilate the meatus. Grim, but I was managing. This only seemed to irritate my penis even more, causing slight swelling and again, inability to urinate. I was in hospital (and back home) Tues-Fri. Eventually, with no other recourse they fixed me with an in-dwelling catheter with a valve. This worked well and made urinating a vaguely normal job again (except for when evacuating the other end).

Here I am a week on, still able to urinate after the catheter's removal but the skin infection of the penis (right under the head/glans), seemingly cured by the fusidic cream prescription, that infection has now returned!!

Any advice/similarities? Cheers!

I had identical issues, you need broad spectrum antibiotics. I would go back to A&E or out of hours if you are not bleeding. They will be able to prescribe you some, mine took ages to heal due to infection but you will get there!
