1 week post circumcision

Hi, so I’m one week post circumcision for acute balanitis and starting to see what my new manhood will look like. So far so good!

Left side of the penis healing wonderfully with a fair few stitches falling out. Swelling has almost disappeared.

Frenulum is still there - quite a lump accompanying it at the head of penis but assume that will disappear over time.

Right side of my penis worries me. I bathed last night with salt water and there’s an open wound about 1cm long where the stitches haven’t worked. They are still intact but very loose. I think it’s past stitching again so wondering what I can use in the UK to promote healing? No sign of infection etc now but I want to ensure I’m on top of this as it could turn quite quickly. Any advice? My surgeon is away until next Monday so asking here before I start running to GPS etc as it may be a simple fix. Thank you!

The open bit should heal quite satisfactorily if you treat it right. Keep it lightly covered to eliminate dirt and infection though.

Small amounts of gapping do occur from time to time but heal themselves.

However, if really worried then see your GP, or wait until the surgeon is back next week if not that urgent.

Thanks, much more reassured if the gapping is normal. It is a sizeable gap and with everything else healing so nicely I was worried about it leaving a big ugly scar - not to mention the infection risks etc. I had one message saying try steri stripping the wound so that may be an option

I go on holiday next week and I don’t think swimming will be an option sadly as this site hasn’t healed. Ah well, better to be safe than sorry!

Irrespective of the gapping, swimming is contra-indicated for a minimum of 4 weeks and preferably 8 weeks. Pool water is chlorinated and will seroiously sting the wound. River, lake or sea swimming risks infection.

Interesting. Thanks for that.

Surgeon had initially given me the ok to swim assuming healing had gone to plan but perhaps we got crossed wires. It hasn’t quite gone right anyway so sadly it won’t be happening anyway!
