On my research on this because I was a healthy active person this is so easy to contact. Being in a vicinity of a person who is a carrier and they can cough and if you are around a lot of people that makes it easier. I worked in maintenance at a jail with over 700 prisoners and that is where I contacted it but I cant prove it. Adoctor wont sign off that they knew or can prove I caught it there. I went to work the day I became ill and after 3 hours became so ill I was sent home. Later that evening I was found at home passed out and 911 was called and I was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. My spouse who found me was checked out for it due to it being contagious and was found okay but to my knowledge no one was checked out at the jail even my coworkers. I last my hearing and have balancing problems but feel lucky to be alive. I have found out also that there is a vacine for meningitis which had I know I would have taken it. We need more awareness about this virus

I worked part time in a crowdy night club when I developed cold and sore throat, then I had fluey symptoms for a couple of days, my immune system was low because I over- worked myself and voila a perfect condition for meningitis. But I have learnt that the bacteria that cause it often live harmlessly at the base of the throat and nasal cavity. It only becomes harmful once it gains entrance into blood stream and detoxicates the blood and travels to the menenges.
