Hi Katinka- I am really sorry to hear what you are going through and hope that you will be able to get back to a normal life. I had viral meningitis only once and it was about 15 years ago. My only suggestion is to rest and relax. When I started to feel "normal" I resumed my usual routine of exercise. Big mistake and the weakness and headaches returned. Did you go back to work between the November and February incidents? The stress of work can also have negative impact on the healing process. I'm sure it's hot this time of year in South Africa and I'm sure the temperature can add even more stress. Try to stay cool but go outside when the temperatures subside. This may sound weird, but, connecting with nature can also help with the healing process. I lived in Port Elizabeth when I was really young and going to the beach was a highlight of my time there. I wish I had more suggestions for you but I don't. Hopefully some of the specialists can guide you in the right direction. -Bill-

I wish I could tell you something that would help but right here in the good ole USA the doctors are totally clueless. Once you get past the acute stage there appears to be no help. I have just reconciled myself to living the new normal. Five years after VM I still struggle daily. Brain fog and dizziness are the worst along with fatigue. These are made worse by stress. I have gone back to work but I just fake it most days. Just remember you are not alone. Do what you can do and TRY not to think about it. It is a head game. Best wishes to you. This is an awful illness.
