My 8 month old son was diagnosed with Meningococcal Sepsis which lead to bacterial Meningitis. He was in PICU for 6 days, hospitalized for 2 weeks. We have since returned home with a few sepsis scabs which are healing beautifully.
His legs however are quite weak, but still have control and movement. He use to be able to stand on them well but is struggling now. His eyes are more sucken in and have dark circles (bags). He's also congested (but he did have alot of fluid on his lungs during PICU) and still passing alot of stools giving him the worst bum rash. Are these normal after effects or concerning ones?
We do have a follow up GP appointment next week, a nurse who comes over to measure his head daily, but isnt the one to ask questions about it.. and I'm meant to be hearing from a Developmental Specialist soon..
The entire ordeal of my son going through this has left me with crippling anxiety and always feeling overwhelmed. I need to stay strong for him but it's hard. I feel so uneducated about all of this and researching it isn't helping my anxiety at all. Thank you for reading this far.
