please have you regain your speech now?

Unfortunately, yes. In my personal experience it happen to me. I knew exactly what I wanted to say but I couldn't get the words to come out. Sometimes it was hard to find the word I wanted to say.

I was able to understand what was being asked of me. I only had a hard time comprehending it if someone was extremely detailed. If they were direct and straight to the point I had no problems.

I am currently in speech therapy which has helped tremendously. I still have some moments where I can't get my words out or understand something.

Everyone is different. Every situation is different. This doesn't happen to everyone but it is possible.

In my case this is a long road to recovery.

There is hope.

Hi, I am 16 months after viral meningitis and still recovering. I already got used to headaches and dizziness and migraines with aura but sometimes, especially after the flu or when I did not sleep well I can't get words out of my mouth. My native language is Czech, in Czech is a bit better but when I try to speak English I feel like I stutter or I feel like my mind works faster than my mouth. It is a really strange feeling, extremely obnoxious but all you can do is to take a rest and sleep. After 2-3 days of really good sleep, it will usually go away for some time. Also, avoid watching TV or any screen (mobile, pc), avoid reading or writing - this helps me the most. Your brain is actually trying to tell you: "slow down I can't keep up with you". Wish you all the best and fast recovery!
