Greetings for the day. My 23 years old fiancee is now 1 year and 4 month post tb meningitis. She's much better mentally but she's still having spasm in her right arm and left leg. Doctors term it as hemiparesis. I want to know your opinion whether it'll get any better now??? As this is the only thing which is the biggest hurdle in her walking. She is having physical therapy but she never want to involve herself as she has fear of falling and she suspects that she'll not be fine again…. I try my best to encourage her but she's still always very thoughtful and sad about her progress.
Please guide me what to do for her spasm so that she can get her confidence of walking.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Anuj

I think you will have received a mail message that I have replied to you but just in case your not made aware- I resonded to your message to me within SilverCharms - Myelin Sheathing posts
Just a thought that may or may not help. I am 7 months post viral meningitis. The after effects have been awful and very slow to recover from. I get severe head pain which feels like the membranes are agitated and then go into spasm causing crushing sensations over my head and neck. However this weekend I was massaging the spine in my neck and I felt a clunk followed by a few clicks in the bones in my neck. This gave huge relief to my head and neck, the pain eased almost immediately and I have had my first pain free three days! I am making an appointment with a good chiropractor to get him to check the alignment of my spine. I also have trouble in the lumbar area following the lumbar punctures.
I am wondering if the squeezing of the membranes has pushed the neck bones out of alignment and this is causing more agitation to the membranes.
My neck is no longer feeling stiff and I have better movement although it feels like another clunk is needed to put it fully right.
I though it may be good to share this as just getting a check up may locate a similar problem.
I will keep you posted on what the chiropractor has to say.
Thanks @Bonkitty for sharing this information with me.
She had TB meningitis and she's not facing any headache or stiff neck now. But her main issue remains her spasm in her right arm and left leg....Any advise for that?
Try yogaraj guggulu made by banyan botanicals available on amazon. It is working for me. I could barely walk yesterday, took 1 pill at breakfast and felt better soon after. Neck was still sore. I guess I didn't realize because of pain in legs and hips. just took second pill and am ok. Will cause some bms though (movements). I am not officiated with either company. I have chemical meningitis. (15 days) As always not medical advice, always check first. You may want to ask a naturopath, or ayurvedic Dr One is available in easyayurveda.com. Good luck, stay positive and eat healthy. btw I read OJ can help, but I don't have any.
I just wondered if any malalignment in the spine caused in the acute meningitis stage may be causing the leg spasms now. I sometimes get pain travelling down my leg which I thought was caused by the lumbar puncture which has also eased since the clunk in my neck.
I am also finding that keeping a positive attitude is important. This weekend I felt a little down due to fatigue after doing supermarket shopping. My husband is very supportive but he also issues a bit of tough love to get me back on the positive track. Does your fiancé read these posts? Or would she write herself here as she may benefit from the support.
My heart goes out to you both as meningitis is a horrible illness.
She can't use the computer yet so she can't post. She also had several spinal taps and maybe that is causing some issues? Will massaging spine help her anyhow?
She also face fatigue and spasm is her biggest challenge which is making her unable to walk. She's so thoughtful and tensed about her condition.
I want to try my best to get her life back on track and I have a strong believe that she'll be fine one day.
Please keep guiding me so that I can help her in best way.
Hope you and your fiancé are ok? I thought I would share my latest info with you so you can try and see if it helps. I mentioned the visit to a chiropractor as I had popped the bones in my neck as a result of the pressure from the meninges...well it has been better than I expected so far. He has started to straighten up my vertigo / imbalance and he has clunked my neck back into alignment magically relieving all my head pain!
I have also researched the use of virgin coconut oil in the recovery of meningitis. I am told it helps nourish membranes and is good for all manner of brain problems... Plus 101 other uses. I take 2 spoons dissolved in hot water twice a day. It can be used for cooking too. It is widely used by sports people to help nourish membranes etc. my chiropractor also spoke highly of it when I told him I was trying it. He has been taking coconut oil for a year now and sings it's praises.
It might be worth a try or give it a google to see what you think.
At the moment I am walking like an injured cowboy but that will improve with further alignment. Try the coconut oil though it is really a superfood. I have just spoken to a friend who is a highly qualified nutritionist and she swears by it too. It can't do any harm.
I'll let her parents know about this coconut oil benefits. So she can take two spoons in hot water right?
She's not yet ok as she can't walk. She is so silent and barely talks now but answers if anyone asks a question. Walking is biggest chalange due to spasm else she has no other pain like stiff neck oe headache, I believe.
Yes I take 2 spoons in hot water but if you google coconut oil their are many recipes and you can fry food in it etc. Is she a little depressed? I am having a visit from a support worker from meningitis trust/ Now next week. He talks about the illness and offers ways in which Meningitis Now can support. Have you already tapped into this support or could this be another avenue of help?
Please excuse the spelling mistakes, my iPad predicts and won't let me edit them!
It's ok, no issue about spellings. We don't have any kind of support here for meningitis in my country. That's really sad but truth.
Do you have a facebook account… I would really love to connect with you there if you don't mind but only and only if you don't mind. You can PM me. It'll help me to be in touch with you and i will be aware about your progress and will keep taking timely advise on my fiancee's progress. Please don't mind asking.
