So I’m staying in an isolated rural area by myself with the nearest hospital a 3 hour drive away and there is no one out here to help me. I’m really worried I have menegitis as I’ve been feeling unwell and feverish all day with a slight sore neck and have just developed a sore throat. I’m scared to go to sleep because I fear I’ll never wake up. I am so so worried, my orients are overseas and there is no one I can call to help me. What should I do?

Scared I have meningitis?
A meningitis headache is excrutiating, like nothing experienced before. However, if you are concerned you may have meningitis then you need to seek urgent medical assessment. Do not delay because some strains of meningitis can be life threatening within hours. We are not medically trained on here, just people who have had meningitis or know or care for someone who has. You need a doctor to advise you. Best wishes.
Although I'm sure you feel super crappy, meningitis is a very rapid onset of a very specific set of symptoms. Bacterial meningitis and viral meningitis do act differently but the hallmark in both is a headache that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy (well, a certain evil, clownish, jackass president comes to mind. Maybe I'll reconsider that one). However, the fever is concerning and I would definitely get yourself looked at, especially if symptoms progress. I am not a doctor. I am a healthcare professional who has has recurring viral meningitis 4 times in 3 years. My post is not a substitute for professional medical advice. I'm betting you have strep throat, or a strain of flu. Reason I say this: you did not mention the EXCRUCIATING and CONSTANT headache/exploding noggin that BM and VM causes. Be well.
