I was diagnosed with viral meningitis last October and recovered within a week and a half. Since I have been released, I have had trouble staying asleep almost every night. I find myself waking up 4+ times but easily falling back asleep. My sleep quality has been poor in which I am not sleeping deeply and I have booked an appointment for a study. I am wondering if anyone else has had trouble with this after effect as well?

Meningitis after effect: Trouble sleeping?
I am the complete opposite. I struggle to stay awake!
Maybe you could take something like Herbal Nytol for a few nights to break the cycle of waking up.
Hi it will get better take it easy for at least 6 to 8 weeks no heavy lifting no stairs or take walks on flat ground listen to your body if it hurts stop l had vm two year in a row God bless helpman
Definetely. The tinnitus drives me insane some nights, but I just made up a trick to help it and it actually works I lay there and pretend that the ringing in my ears is actually a block from other noises and it’s there to help not hurt haha aint that a psychological bender. And I wake up a lot too
Also my balance is bad now and my hearing literally goes from perfect to deaf whenever it wants to and I hate it. Like I could accept being deaf and I can accept not being deaf, but when you’re forced to live a life where one second you can join normal conversations and then the next moment your friends are getting mad for having to keep repeating themselves and yelling to you lol. But after all like the other poster said WE ARE BLESSED TO BE ALIVE. a lot of meningitis survivors have it loads worse
“Not to take away from mine or your struggles”
Hey, you are definitely not alone. Since I got VM last September, my sleep has been pretty awful. I had no problem falling asleep...but I'd wake up every hour and a half, or every 3 hours for no reason. I started taking a supplement called Myocalm, which helped and also made it easier to go back to sleep, but I am still waking up about once or twice a night. I think it's something that will get easier as time goes on.
Hello, You can find my 28 year old daughter, Rosie S' Story, via the link on the forum stories from the home page.
We found that cranial massage worked wonders for her. Her job is working with horses on pretty much a daily basis and is very physically demanding.
It is rare for a story to be so positive and we have tried to let people know that this amazing complementary therapy worked for her. It helps release the spinal fluid which VM leaves a blockage for. Rosie is pretty much cured after around 10 sessions coupled with actupuncture, although found awesome relief after only one appointment. She is now free of all pain killers and antidepressants and feels right back to her old self.
We can only let you know what worked for her. It's not for all, but has now given amazing relief for many. It seems the success could be to do with the skill of the cranial osteopath you use. So it is important to find out the osteopaths credentials and experience in this specialised field particularly dealing with VM sufferers, if you can. (Not all osteopaths realise that this helps VM sufferers, it is often carried out on young babies with birthing problems). You need an osteopath and not a therapist who mearly has some training in cranial massage.
If you find you are getting the violent headaches and feeling lethargic and depressed after a few weeks, give this complementary therapy a go, it really could be worth it and save you being on prescribed drugs, along with months, years, of unnecessary suffering.
Kind wishes and best of luck
Great story , very well written. I totally empathise. Thank you Rosie!
