Everyone recovers from Meningitis differently, but from reading this forum it seems that for many of us it is a very long, slow process.I'm sure there are those who recover quickly but guess they are too busy living to be on these forums.

Type in fatigue in search box here and see if it brings up other posts as this is a really common worry for most of us after Meningitis.

Menigitis is a serious assault on the whole body and brain especially -really it should be treated as a brain injury.

Take things very slowly -the fatigue, aches and pains, memory loss-are all after effects and they are your body saying it needs some TLC.You simply cant push through this fatigue. How long were you off school/college with the meningitis?Perhaps you need a more extended time out -you can take time out on medical grounds.

One thing which is very hard work is spending lots time on computer,or nintendos etc as well as TV.These are things which you assume are relaxing but actually are very stimulating and tiring for damaged brains.I had to limit these very much until the last year or so.Perhaps listening to music or actual relaxation cds is best.

There are lots folks on her who have had viral meningitis and many who are further on in their journeys too,so hopefully other will post here.It sometimes depends just who is online at particular times -you can get instant answers or have 2 wait a few days.

Wisjing you all the best with your recovery and remember we are all here to help you.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my question I was told by the hospital to take month off of college but as I had already missed so much I went back after a week and suffered for it meaning that I took loads of time off anyway I o take things slowly and I dontt plan ahead of myself because I don't known how I am going to be.... There's not much I can do about being on a computer all the time as all my subjects in college require me to use the computer but I do also watch a lot of TV which I could cut down on ..... I seem to be suffering more with the aches and pains when the whether changes going hot to cold or vise versa do you get this also??

Thanks again.

Youre lucky you can listen to music etc Im deaf so cannot hear t.v. I use subtitles, and music is a no go. Lip read people most of the time and sounds not speech are really loud with my implants so sometimes I have to sit in a quiet room and try and relax.

You have come far and you seem very brave but do you not get frustrated because of it as it seems rather difficult you can always read lyrics of a song as songs can be away of expression and you key read lyricstha could describe how you feel and it may make you feel better

I had to retire from work after having m and s. I take every day as it comes now its 2 years since I had this dreadful disease and I can only walk with crutches outside a short distance the most of the time I have a powered wheelchair which my family take me out in. Im profoundly deaf and have tinnitus. As well as being off balance which they tell me will never recover. I have painkillers and heart tablets as the virus affected my heart and I had an operation. I could go on but whats the point im only glad to be alive. Im on antibiotics for life as they say I could get the virus again as my body does not recognise it so cannot fight it. Sorry could not give you any good news but hey ho they say everyone is different. Take care.

Thanks for taking the time to rreply sorry that you have been through so much with the illness it makes me realise how lucky I am as it could have been worse .... It may just be the case that I'll have to live with aches and pains flaring up every now and then but I am fortunate that I can walk and I am alive if you ever want to talk then I'm more than happy to take the time to listen to you everyone on this forum is here for eachother . thanks again
