I laid in bed for 7 days FLAT, i only got up to use the bathroom. My fear is: did my spinal fluid stop leaking? Did the hole from the lumbar puncture close? Can my dr send me for a test to see?

I've had many lumbar punctures not only with my VM but before when I had a pinched nerve in my neck and after suffering for two months they had to operate on my neck. That was when I was in my 30's. it was the worst thing I had been through. I was off work for four months and when I could go back to work I could only work half days with a metal collar around my neck. Of course they do things a lot different today. I am now 77 years old and had my first bout with VM three years ago. I had it three times in 1 1/2 years. Each time they did a spinal tap and I spent five days in the hospital each time. I just pray my pills that I take to keep me from getting it anymore works. I know what you mean by having to stay in bed for so long. I had the same experience after having a milogram. I don't know if there is a test to see how much spinal fluid has been built up. They had to do a second milogram after the first one failed. I asked the doctor if he thought enough spinal fluid had been built up and his answer was - I won't know until I try it. That also was a long time ago so hopefully they can do a test to see how much your spinal fluid has built up. Good luck!

I had a similar situation with my first LP, ended up going back to hospital 3 days later because of crushing headaches. I found out that I was moving around too much after just 24 hours, so it was probably my fault. Most likely after 7 days it closed up. If you get really bad head and neck pain standing up then I would ask your doctor if you need to get a blood patch done.
