Why would the hospital not admit someone with viral meningitis with fever of 105 who is 30 and type two diabetic
I suspect only the hospital can answer that question but if they suspected VM there's a good possibility that they thought it is a mild disease akin to flu as that's what the medical profession is universally taught I'm told. In my case I was discharged after 3 days in hospital because I could stand up, well with the help of two nurses I could. I was then rushed back in 3 days later with collapsing veins and blood pressure so low they couldn't put an IV into me in the ambulance. My neurologist cheerfully told me about 6 weeks later that I was 'checking out of hotel life on both occasions. The only suggestion I would make, and if you've had VM its probably the last thing you want to do, is raise merry hell with the hospital to get an explanation. If they still think BM is a mild disease just ask them to post that as a question here and then they will be educated I can assure you! Good luck in your recovery. j
I also was not admitted into hospital my doc diagnosed vm after goin 3 times in a week as I felt so ill, looking back I don't even know how I managed to get to the docs..... After being asked 'why are u here again'was asked my symptoms I told her and immediately Was told i had VM 'what do I do now ' thinkin hospital was the only answer, surely nobody coukd feel rhis bad and not be admitted into hospital she told me to go home and go to bed..... I did and got so ill eventually ended up in hospital.. I wasn't given any treatment as by that time it was too late & I was told no treatment for a virus....
The rest is history 2 yrs if hellish recovery, felt so ill at times I just couldn't cope.... Personality change, physically every bone & joint aches so bad..... The list goes on...... then a lumber puncture 3.5 yrs and wow now more h ache it finally went, this was dec12, still recovering but can cope without the debilitating h ache and dizziness..... My advice to you is just take it slow, vm takes its toll that's for sure it's just a shame the medical profession does not recognise this.... I'd like to shout from the roof tops and make these people sit up and listen to us all....
One day!
But for now nurture yourself as much as you can...
Thinkin of you x
Boy if someone told me that I was not sick enough to be admitted to the emergency room here in Arizona, I would probably punch them. I am in my 12th week dealing with a nasty case of VM. I have been back and forth to the hospital 6 times with two LP'S. So far the doctors and hospitals have been very good with me. I wish you folks the best in your battle with recovery. It is really kickin my ass!
Thank you all and today is by far the hardest I've had my fever is gone and so is my headache but I am having trouble concentrating remembering I have fainting feelings a bad taste in my mouth along with a funny feeling I my mouth and jaws and I'm having such a hard time with a toddler and being single mom and I took her and my twelve year old son to children's hospital yesterday because he's having headache fever for two days now and his strep test was positive they called in amoxicillin said has to run its course just treat symptoms for viral meningitis I am also having vision changes mood swings and flat mood
Also an odd sensation behind my eyelids when trying to shut them so I can sleep so in having insomnia and hallucinations
I had vm aug of last year. I'm still dealing w several after effects. One of the things I have a difficult time explaining to doctors is this sensation in my eyes. It's like a feeling of anxiety in my eyes. I have to shut them and rub them. But it's a terrible feeling especially if I try to read.
