Anyone else have this?

Hi, I had VM last year. I used to read all of the time. I haven't completed a book since I had it. I fall asleep as soon as i start reading. I'm going back to school next week (I'm 37) to be a dental assistant. I know there is a lot of reading.

I have been doing a lot of walking lately so i was thinking I'd get a treadmill and read while walking, hopefully that week keep me from falling asleep!

Anyone else have this problem?

Hello, well you made to a year. I had VM in December 2011 the tiredness is my main downfall. I sleep very well but find when I get home I tend to fall asleep in front of the TV. Drives my wife mad. It could just me my age (50) or an affect of the VM. I find reading small sections at a time, even with a magazine works for me. Hope you get on OK at school and only 13 years to go and you can blame your age!!!

In 2011 I had herpes in early Sept. The next time I had it was July of 2012 and the third time was October 2012. Three times in 1 1/2 years. Each time I spent 5 days in the hospital and came home with a pic line to receive the medicine. Now the doctor has me on the pill form of the same medication. He says I will have to take it the rest of my life. I am now 77 years old.

Speaking as someone that had a near fatal attack of VM 11 years ago, I hope I can talk from experience. Your brain has taken a battering and the thing with the human brain is that doctors really don't know that much. In essence you have retrain your brain to get back to where you were. For me I had to virtually learn to walk again, I couldn't concentrate on anything for much more than a few seconds at a time and tiredness was and is an ongoing issue but you learn to cope. Don't listen to the doctors who tell you that it's a mild disease if you feel different. Unfortunately VM recovery requires patience and the tiredness will ease. Last weekend I completed my second half ironman triathlon so I'm proof positive that it isn't a life sentence although at times it did feel like it. Find what works for you and take it in baby steps, if you're tired it's your brain trying to heal itself, if you ignore that and press on you won't feel better but can put yourself back. I know I've tried. Good luck and remember there's a whole bunch of us here who know what you're going through and we're happy to help. Good luck, J

Thank you everyone! You guys are always an inspiration. I'm a lot farther than I thought I'd be, I could hardly walk around the block last year at this time. Now i try to walk at least 4 miles a day. Tiga, I read the links, thanks! I was glad to see the treadmill was on there, hopefully i don't end up with skid marks on my forehead lol. Also there were a lot of other good tips that I'm going to try.... like wearing my glasses. .... not a fan but a good idea lol.

Thank you everyone!

I love this site because I'm not alone.

Very grateful.
