Hello lovely people,Can you please tell me if a young adult joind residential college term time and is home in college holidays, would they get any respite, Direct Payment or any care hours for their weekends at home and the holidays? Or is it the case that if someone is at residential college, that's all they get?

I am considering college for my soon to be 18 years old, hoping I will be able to start work or study once he's in a college but if there is no Care hours for him In school holidays, then i won't be able to.

Also, once a child turns 18, I will loose the child element and didabled child element of UC and I will have to pay Council Tax as we'll be two adults at home, how do people cope with the drop in income specially if you are single and a full time carer?

Advice and guidance grately appreciated :)

When my son was at residential college years ago it was a little different. He received and still does, DLA and ESA , I also received Carers Allowance. He came home every weekend and holidays we continued to receive all the benefits. Not sure with these new benefits , you maybe able to look online. Are you claiming carers allowance if not have you tried? You should get the relief of 25% minimum on council tax. We had my husband and I plus our son and had 25% relief.

You maybe able to find all this information online.
