Since my mam passed away my disabled brother has moved in with us. I don’t really want to think about him paying for living with us but we’re not well off and struggling to pay for everything. He gets esa and pip and I get esa and pip for my disability. I’m just wondering what can I charge him to live with us any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to charge for board and lodging. I’d look at the going rates for a room in a shared house which typically take into account utility bills. And also consider a contribution to food costs. If you are now his full time carer you may also be eligible for carers allowance (worth checking) and if he does pay a formal rent in due course he may be eligible for housing allowance. This may not be so depending on your circumstances but worth checking out. Best wishes.
You shouldn’t feel guilty about your brother contributing to his housing and living costs. If he lived anywhere else he would have to pay, that’s what his benefits are for. Also, you are a wonderful sister for looking after him!
